Welcome to Cake, Cookie, Pie Fest!
This blog is a collection of recipes I have created over the years to meet my family’s desire for healthy treats (and some savory ones, too!) on special occasions. Treats and foods made without wheat, sugar, colorful chemicals (food coloring), GMO’s, corn, peanuts, or soy. Yes, you really can make food without those ingredients! I know you may be surprised to hear that since you will find at least one of these ingredients in most restaurant items and in virtually all packaged foods, but I assure you it is possible and just as YUMMY!!!! LOL!
I had to get creative a few decades ago when a family member started having reactions to some very common ingredients we were eating. It was a lot harder to find a lot of these ingredients 20 years ago than it is now so if you are just starting this journey, it will be easier for you than it was for a lot of us back then. Please know, I do not say that lightly. I am FULLY aware of the emotional and logistical issues associated with changing your eating habits!!! I have discovered over the years that being positive and focusing on what you CAN eat is way better than focusing on what you cannot eat! I have also learned to forgive people for the comments they make when they just do not understand. Food is relational as well as nutritional and sometimes people are uncomfortable with new and different things…I try to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are not trying to be hurtful…I am much better at this after 20 years than I used to be! Sometimes people think you are trying to be better than them and once you assure them that you feel better eating this way they USUALLY back off. It is okay to politely, yet firmly, explain that you just like to eat without getting a stomachache from your food! That is what everyone wants, right?
These recipes will help get you started if you are beginning to change your diet or they will add new foods to your rotation if you have been eating this way for awhile and are just looking for something new! You can eat and even indulge your sweet tooth without the unpleasant consequences of the previously listed foods that are so hard to avoid. No stomach issues, headaches, acne, etc. related to food sensitivities.
You CAN feel better! Our bodies were designed to heal when they are given what they need and everyone is different. Take care of yourself so you can enjoy life as much as possible!
